Great Pen Stores -Austria- Europe

Graz, Austria

Schediwy Sporgasse
6 Graz 8010, Austria
www.schediwy.at

Schediwy Sporgasse has a long history, it was started in 1938 by Erich Schediwy and over the next 70 years developed into a specialist for high-quality stationery and printed materials. It is an "upmarket stationery range" store with a selection of pens. Expect to see the well-designed European pens that include Caran d'Ache, Faber Castell, Graf von Faber Castell, Montblanc, Montegrappa, Pelican, Dupon, to name just some of the lines they carry. Visitors of the store have written about the excellent service. (Thanks D. Peers).

It was very good to meet George Graholer. I had heard so many good comments from others. I knew when he pulled our the "big" pen we were going to have a fine visit. Within moments I had a coffee and a biscuit and the big talk was on!

The store is a mix of vintage clothes and pen cases. There are a couple of pen cases where he shows a wide selection of vintage pens. What pens are there today? Well it all depends on what comes in.

It is the kind of store where you can dip a pen and try it out!

The store has a very good selection of pens and carries the major lines such as Caran D'Ache, Cross, S.T. Dupont, Faber-Castell, Lamy, Montlbanc, Parker, Pelikan, Waterman, Montegrappa, Visconti and Kaweco. All the lines are listed on their web site, but a work of caution, no english pages on the site.

Christian is very optmistic about the pen business. It is a pleasure to visit with him. If you are in Vienna, make sure you visit the store. They are located on Kärntner Straße which is the main pedestrian mall.

The store is open Monday to Friday, 10:00 to 6:30 and on Saturdays from 9:30 to 6.

This store was founded in 1882 and is located near the central St. Stephen’s Cathedral. They have shops in nearly all former countries of the Habsburg Empire. The web site lists the different cities. The store carries much more than pens (luggage, china etc.) but it does have a good selection of pens with the major lines all represented.

The store is open Monday to Friday, 9:30 am to 6:30 pm and on Satudays 10:00 am to 5:00 pm.

The store comes highly recommended. I look forward to an opportunity to visit it when I have the chance to visit Vienna.

Well in May 2017 I did have the chance to visit the store. The store on Graben is primarily pens. They carry a large selection but the layout of the store is one where you walk in, everything is in a wall showcase or behind the counter. Not alot of wallking around and browsing. I did introduce myself, and had a short chat. the store is owned by the Weidler Family and is not being run by fourth generation family members.

The company dates back to 1882, although the store was destroyed in 1944 during the war. Gerald Weidler was responsible for the rebuilding of the company.

It is a beautiful store, with high-end pens. Can't tell you much more as the converstation was a bit limited.
